Gene York, 72, Former Lumber Manager Here, Dies

V. E. "Gene" York, 72, Phoenix, Ariz., well-known former manager of Fairfield Lumber Co. about 25 years ago, died at his home, Saturday, Dec. 10, 1988.  He had suffered from a lengthy illness of respiratory problems.

Services will be held Tuesday at the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Phoenix with burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery also in Phoenix. Visitation is tonight from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Whitney and Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home, Phoenix.

Mr. York was a manager of the Fairfield Lumber Company prior to his moving to Phoenix to manage the O'Malley Lumber Company there. He had been retired from that job for about three years.

He was a member of the Shriners, the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge and a past president of the Lions Club here in Fairfield.

Surviving him are his wife, Dona of Phoenix; one daughter, Jackie French of Daytona Beach, FL; three sons, James of Seguien, TX.; Clark Dayton of Phoenix and Vernon Eugene York II, also of Phoenix; one brother, Dwight York of Mt.  Vernon, IL; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
