Byron C. Redd, 73, Dies At Mattoon; Was Wayne Native

Byron C. Redd, 73, of Mattoon died at 11:51 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 7, 1996, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in that city.

Mr. Redd, a former Fairfield resident and a Wayne County native, was a retired farm building salesman for Moore Farm Buildings.

Funeral rites were conducted Saturday morning from the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home in Charleston, with Rev.  Larry Millis officiating. Burial with  graveside military rites were conducted at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation was conducted just prior to the funeral.

He was born June 28, 1923, in Wayne County, the son of Homer and Ollie Finley Redd. He was first married to Doris Smith, now of Arlington, Tex.; later he married Martha Libotte Browning in 1970.

He was past president of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship of Charleston, a former member of the Coles County Barbershoppers chorus; and was affiliated with the Living Word Fellowship in St. Joseph.  He was a Navy pilot in World War II.

Preceding him m death were his parents and a sister.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Ron Redd, of Hamel; two daughters, Cheryl Hamilton, of Arlington, Tex.; and Betty Smith, of Dallas, Tex.; two step-daughters, Diane Browning, of Delaware, Ohio; and Suzy Walters, of Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
