Lyle Gene Huddleson, Former FCHS Coach - Teacher, Dies

Lyle Gene Huddleson, 64, of Stewardson, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996, at Lakeland Health Care Center in Effingham. Mt. Huddleson was an assistant coach and teacher at Fairfield High School in the early 1980s. He was a high school teacher and football coach for 30 years.

He had been in declining health with prostate cancer for three and a half years and more seriously ill for the past ten months.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, August 2, at the Sidell, Ill. United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1 to 2:30 p.m. before the service. Military rites will be given at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. The Joines Funeral Home in Sidell is in charge of arrangements.

He was born October 6, 1931, at Jamaica, Ill. His parents were Bill and Margaret Huddleson and step-parents, Otis and Hattie Huddleson. They preceded him in death.

On January 3, 1953, he was married to Dorothy Geraldine Minnick.

Mr. Huddleson was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and received his master's degree from Indiana State University.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Sidell Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Surviving are his wife; three sons Otis Irvin Huddleson, of Farmersville, Ind.; Lyle Gene Huddleson, of Rye, N.Y.; and Kevin Andrew Huddleson, of Reseda, Calif.; two daughters, Cheri Lynn Kyle, of Effingham, and Margaret Ann Huddleson, of Greenwood, Ind.; a step-sister, Mrs. Marie Christie, of Dannlle; and four grandchildren. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death, in addition to his parents. ===== ===== Mt. Vernon Girl Killed In Two Car Collision

Misty Rose Hawkins, 17, of Mt. Vernon, wag killed Tuesday, July 30, 1996, in a two car crash on Route 37 two miles north of Mt. Vernon.

She was the granddaughter of a former Wayne County resident, Billie Menefee, of Dix. Misty reportedly had been at the Menefee home and was enroute home at the time of the accident.

State Police said Misty was southbound on Route 37 and lost control on her 1995 Ford Mustang. The car left the roadway and then came back onto the Pavement, crossing the centerline and colliding with a car driven by Mark A. Hill, 33, of Centralia. Hill suffered only minor injuries.

It took firemen 15 minutes to extricate Miss Hawkins from her car. She would have been a senior at Mt. Vernon High School this fall.

She was born July 30, 1979, in Huntington, W. Va., the daughter of Michael W. and Leslie Menefee Hawkins.

She was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church.

Rites will be at 10:30 am. Friday, at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Visitation at Hughey's will be 5 to 8 o'clock Thursday evening (tonight).

Surviving are her parents, Michael and Leslie Hawkins; brothers Jason Hawkins, of Pontoon Beach, and Destin Hawkins, of Mt. Vernon, grandparents, Richard and Evelyn Hawkins, of Mt. Vernon, Billie Menefee, of Dix; and Harry Menefee, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
