Virgil Harmon Dies

Virgil Harmon, 81, of Salem, a former Wayne County resident died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 1984, at Salem Township Hospital. Mr. Harmon was involved in a car wreck a month ago. He was transferred to Salem hospital from upstate the day before his death, the Press was told.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers-Atklns Funeral Home, Salem, with burial to follow in Paradise Cemetery there. Visitation will be conducted from 6-9 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Outreach International for benefit of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints through Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home, 301 S. Broadway, Salem, IL 62881.

Mr. Harmon was born in Wayne County Feb. 8, 1903, the son of Mac and Elizabeth (Brown) Harmon. He was married to the former Doris Bradley at Centralia Sept. 1, 1937.

Mr. Harmon was a retired oilfield employee.

He was a member of the Salem RLDS Church. Mr. Harmon belonged to Labor Local #528.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Harmon, of Salem; two sons, Marion Harmon, of Centralia; and Glennis Harmon, of Kell; four daughters, Mrs. Avanelle Mercer, of Kansas; Mrs. Mayola Friend, of Arizona; Mrs. KatherineRamirez, of Kansas; and Mrs. Gayla Fitzgerald, of Xenia; one sister, Mrs. Kathie Peterson, of Washington; 16 grandchildren; and one reat-grandchild
