EDITH BRADLEY

Edith E. Bradley, 101, of Peoria, and formerly of Xenia, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Edith was born Jan.9, 1909, in Xenia to Bert and Amanda (Forth) Holman. She married Curtis P. Bradley on Oct. 30, 1928 in Salem. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1964. He was the love of her life. She was raised on a farm and educated in Xenia and Flora. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to all of her family and was lovingly known by her grandchildren as Speedo Edo.

She resided in the home of her loving daughter, Mary Jane, for most of the last 45 years. We all learned loving lessons from her all of our lives and was so very blessed to have her love and caring ways for so many years. She gave so many hugs to all she met and her beautiful smile was known by all.

She made "killer" cinnamon rolls and taught all the girls in the family to make and help roll them. She loved to play cards with us all such as Kings in the Corner and Skipbo. She had her hair done weekly and painted her nails blushing pink, and she loved pretty clothes and gold shoes. She pressed a sharp crease even in her blue jeans and was a wonderful seamstress who shared her talents to benefit us all. She loved Cherry Coke and shrimp scampi and was a champion golfer. She never met a stranger and loved us all unconditionally. She was a thoroughly "Modern Millie" who never dwelled in the past, but thoroughly enjoyed the younger generation and that kept her young up to the day we lost our best buddy. Rest well our dearest Edo, you will live on in our hearts forever and a day.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane (Bobbitt) Platt of Peoria; son, Curtis P. Bradley Jr. and wife Mary Ella of Xenia; five grandchildren, John (Sylvia) Bobbitt of Apple Valley, Minn., Jane (Steve) Tighe of Eden Prairie, Minn., Julia (Shannon) Gruber of Grand Island, Neb., Lynn Ann Boone of Vidor, Texas, and Mark (Debby) Bradley of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Kimberly, Nicole, Megan, Bradley, Kayla, JJ and Jacob; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; two sisters; and two grandsons, Steven C. Bradley and Jeff W. Bobbitt.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.Saturday at the Xenia United Methodist Church in Xenia where she was a member.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Xenia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m.Friday at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Memorials may be made to Xenia United Methodist Church in her name.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Heartland Manorcare, Proctor Hospital and Dr. Tom Kouri for their kindness. An online guest book is available.
