Mrs. Ruth Holloway, 89, Dies In Southwest; Hold Dix Rites

Mrs. Ruth V. Holloway, 89, of Cedar Crest, N.Mex., died at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, N.Mex., at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 1994.

She was a native of Jefferson County and has relatives in Wayne City, Keenes and Bluford areas.

Mrs. Holloway and her husband, the late Roger V. Holloway, resided for many years in Vaughn, N.Mex. He died in 1978, following retirement from the Southern Pacific Railroad, where she was employed for 31 years. In 1969 the couple moved to Albuquerque and in more recent years, she lived at Cedar Crest, N.Mex.

Funeral services for Mrs. Holloway were conducted Sunday afternoon from the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Rev. O.E. Hargrave officiating. Interment was in Wells Chapel Cemetery in rural Bluford.

She was born in Jefferson County, Ill., July 25, 1904, the daughter of Charles W. and Elizabeth Byars Pierce.  On Nov. 29, 1924, in Mosquero, N.Mex., she was married to Roger V. Holloway.

Memorials may be made to the Wells Chapel Cemetery.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, an infant son, two sisters, one brother, one stepbrother and one stepsister.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Peggy S.) Gerdes, of Cedar Crest, N.Mex.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl and Glenn Pierce, of Bluford; one stepbrother, Earl Wilson, of Centralia; two sisters, Cecile Donoho, of Wayne City and Wilma Courtney, of Livonia, Mich.; and two stepsisters, Clars Coil, of Keenes; and Bertha Donoho, of Paw Paw.
