Roy P. Sheldon, 75, Former Fairfield Resident, Dies

Roy P. Sheldon, 75, of Murphysboro, died at 8:41 p.m. July 3, 1994, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro following a short illness.

He was a former Fairfield boy and son of the late E. P. and Minnie Chamberlain Sheldon.

Funeral rites will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with Rev. John Hartleroad officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Cemetery at Murphysboro with military rites. Visitation at the funeral home will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday prior to the funeral hour. A longtime resident of Murphysboro, Mr. Sheldon had worked in Building Services at SIU in Carbondale.

He was born at St. Louis, Mo., Apr. 11, 1919. On Oct. 6, 1945, he was married to Patricia Patrician.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Murphysboro and a member of the Masonic Lodge there. Mr. Sheldon was a World War II veteran.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to donor's choice.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Carol Coventry of Davis, Calif.; one grandson; and three nieces, including Patsy Brawley, of Wayne City.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.
