W. C. Murphy  received a severe stroke of paralysis while sitting in his home this morning and lies tonight in a most critical condition.  Later William C. Murphy departed this life on Friday night, May 20th, aged 61 years 2 months and 16 days.

The deceased was born in Breckenbridge Co., Ky.  While very young he moved with his parents to Centralia,  Illinois and from there to Wayne  County in his early youth where he has since resided spending some time in the service of his country during the late war.

In the prime time  of life he ranked high in political and social circles. His declining years were spent on his farm  in Leech Twp.

His remains were interred in the Simpson graveyard on Saturday  May 21st.

Just after the war he served one term as sheriff of the county and he has been repeatly elected to offices in his own township.

He was a member of the 40th Ill Vol and served  through the war.
