Charles  Sabin  Finley

Charles Sabin, son of James D. and Sarah Finley, was born in Wayne county, March 3, 1872. His life was spent in and near the community of his birth where he was engaged in farming and stockraising and for many years has been one of the highly respected and substantial farmers of Berry Township.

He was of a quiet and friendly disposition, true and loyal to his family and friends and was greatly beloved by all who knew him for his many sterling qualities of real manhood. In his early manhood he was converted and united with the Mt. Olivet Methodist Church and through all the years he has been a stalwart and faithful member of this congregation. His life is his best eulogy and a record of his deeds is written in the hearts of his family and friends, where it will ever be treasured as a precious heritage.

He was united in marriage with Clara Florence Simms, March 3, 1905. Seven children were born to this union, the eldest, a son, Henry Seth, died in infancy.

His health has been failing for several months and in spite of every effort to gain his health he grew steadily worse and after a few hours of coma, he entered peacefully into rest at his home in Berry township, Saturday evening, December 16, 1939; age 67 years, 9 months and 13 days.

Attending at his bedside at the time of his passing were his faithful wife, three sons, Loa C., of Johnsonville; Dale C. of Olney and Wesley C. at home; three daughters Mrs. Ozella Gorman of Cook Station, Missouri, and Mrs. Opal Blackburn and Mrs. Jessie McNeil both of Fairfield. Besides his immediate family he is survived by seven grandchildren, two brothers, Roy of Fairfield and Calvin C. of Wichita, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brown of Tipton, Mo., and Mrs. Maud Taylor and Mrs. Ollie Redd,both of Fairfield, a host of other relatives and many dear friends, who will mourn his departure.

Funeral services were conducted from the Mt. Olivet Church, Monday morning by Rev. J. F. Sanford and Rev. W. E. Courtright. Interment was in the Bovee cemetery.

Jesus, while our hearts are bleeding,
O'er the spoils that death has won;
May we at this solemn meeting,
Calmly say, "Thy will be done."
