For Victiums of
Sunday’s Wreck

Jack Vaughan Rites
At Burnt Prairie;
Negro Dead Removed

Funeral services were held  today at 2 p. m, at the Burnt Prairie C P. Church for Jack Vaughan, 28, who was killed instantly at 5:10 p. m. in the head-on automobile collision on State Highway 45 northwest of Fairfiled.

The Rev. Harry L. Garrett, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Fairfield, officiated at the services and interment was in the Burnt Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Vaughan, of Burnt Prairie, was one of five victiums, of the tragic pre-Christmas collision caused when a Negro driver lost control of his car and it veared across the center line of the  highway into the path of the other machine.

Also killed in  the Chevolet car Mr. Vaughn was driving were Burl Kay, 37, and Oscar Cullison, 47, both of Fairfield.  The three employed by the Floyd & Henson Drilling Company of Fairfield, were returning home from work.

The Chrysler station wagon driven by Solmon Cotton, 26, was headed north.  He was killed instantly, as was Sterling Jones, 26.  Both were enroute to their homes in Chicago from Baton Rouge, La., where they were teachers in Southern University, a school for  colored students.

Criitically injured was Samuel Geralds, 31, of Winston-Salem, NC., ,also a university speech correction teacher, who was to attend a clinic in Chicago. He and Mr. Jones were also colored.

Funeral  services for Mr. Kay were held today at 3 p.m. at theDixon-Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Fairfield, with Kent Dale officiatIng. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Fairfield,

Services for Mr. Cullison were held at 2 p. m. at Nale’s Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. F. M. Leckrone officiating, Burial was in Graceland Cemetery at Albion.

The bodies of Mr. Cotton and Mr. Jones were removed Tuesday afternoon to Chicago for funeral services and Geralds was taken to the Jefferson Barracks Hospital.

Mr.  Vaughan, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W, (China) Vaughan of Fairfield, was born at Burnt Prairie. Aug. 18, 1923.

He is survived by his wife Naomi; a son, Jackie; his parents, and one brother; R. W. Vaughan. Jr., who resides in Oklahoma.
