SYLVESTER   (VESS) BARNARD
Dies at Memorial Hospital

A well-known resident of the Wayne City area, Sylvester (Vess) Barnard, 69, died at 11/55 o’clock Friday night at Fairfield Memorial hospital where he was admitted three hours earlier.

Mr. Barnard had been in failing health for the past year and had been under doctor’s care. That morning he visited his doctor. Later in the day his condition worsened and that night he was moved to the hospital. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Barnard was a long time farm operator, stock raiser and trucker.

He was born in the Wayne City area July 6, 1901, the son of John and Jane (Malone) Barnard.

On October 11, 1943, he was married to Josie Henderson, of Sims, a semi-invalid Years ago he was converted at Bailey church.

Final rites were held at Richardson’s chapel Monday (today) with Rev. Ray Phillips in charge. Burial was in Bailey cemetery.

Surviving are his widow; and one sister, Mrs. Luna (Clara) Henson, of Wayne City. The family had no children. He was a nephew of former sheriff Arthur Barnard.
