Thomas H. Dickey, 79, Dies In West Virginia; Rites Here

Thomas Hayward Dickey, 79, of Spencer, W. Va., died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 25, 1996, at Roane Hospital in that city.  Mr. Dickey had been in failing health with emphysema.  He was a former well-known Fairfield resident and was a retired building contractor.  He moved to Florida, 25 to 30 years ago, later moving to West Virginia.

He was a cousin of David Dickey and Alice Foster here.

Funeral services were conducted from the Johnson Funeral Home here Sunday afternoon, with Bro. Kenneth Holland officiating.  Burial was in Bethel Cemetery near Ellery. A visitation was held at the Johnson Chapel Saturday evening.  Masonic rites were held.

He was born in Fairfield June 2, 1916, the son of Hubert and Lora Hudson Dickey.  He was first married to Alta Pettigrew.  She preceded him in death.  Later he was married to Iris Miller. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one brother.

Mr. Dickey was a member of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge and the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church southeast of Fairfield. He had attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in Spencer.

Mr. Dickey was a World War II veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Iris; a stepson, Carl Murphy, of Dothan, Ala.; a step-daughter, Juanita Hollis, of Troy, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Mann, of Spencer, W. Va.; and Bessie Grother, of Jackson, Miss.; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
