Lena Opal Shelton, 92, Dies;
Was Route 2 Bluford Resident

 Mrs. Lena Opal Shelton, 92, of Rt 2, Bluford, died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday Apr. 28, 1996, at Crossroads-Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.  More recently she had been at the Nature Trails Nursing Home.

Mrs. Shelton was a retired employee of the Mt. Vernon Shoe Factory and the Mt. Vernon Knitting Factory.

Funeral rites will be at 10 30 a.m. Tuesday from the Bluford Funeral Home, with Rev. Gale Breeze officiating. Burial will be in East Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 Monday evening (tonight) from the Bluford Funeral Home.

She was born at Bluford June 28, 1903, the daughter of Carroll and Nancy Davis Lane.  On Feb. 1, 1923, she was married in Jefferson County to Harvey Shelton.  He died Oct. 6, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one grandson, five brothers and six sisters.

She was a member of the East Hickory Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Verna Dean Taylor, of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Marvin (Evalena) Wilson, of Bluford; and Norma Jean Thomason, of Bluford; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
