Melvin A. Farmer Dies; Pastored Number Of Churches

Rev. Melvin A. Farmer, 88, of this city, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Apr. 14, 1996, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  Rev. Farmer had been in declining health for several months with Alzheimer's and heart complications.

He had served as pastor of a number of area churches, including Rock Branch, Kings Chapel and Victory, and started some churches, including Kings Chapel a mile north of Fairfield. Mr. Farmer was also a longtime carpenter here.

Funeral rites are pending at Nale's Funeral Home.

He was born at Princeton, Ind., Aug. 28, 1907, the son of Melvin and Bessie Rector Farmer.  Sixty-nine years ago this month he was married to Mamie Harrison.

Rev. Farmer was a member of the Victory G. B. Church west of Fairfield.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Eldon and Lewis Farmer, both of Fairfield; a brother, Floyd Farmer, of Paragould, Ark.; two sisters, Iva Cox, of Fairfield; and Evelyn Simms of Rockford; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
