Ernest W. Nettleton, 82, Dies; Was Airtex Retiree

Ernest W. Nettleton, 82, of Rt. 5, Fairfield died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 30, 1996 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, from pulmonary fibrosis.

He had been more seriously ill the past two months and in deteriorating condition the past couple of weeks.

Mr. Nettleton was a longtime employee in the Shipping Department of Airtex Products, but retired a number of years ago. He also farmed.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Ellen Moore United Methodist Church, with Rev. Keith Turner officiating. Burial will be in Buckeye Cemetery near Geff. Visitation at the Johnson Funeral Home will be 6 to 9 Monday evening (tonight).

He was born at West Salem Nov. 26, 1913, the son of Jared (Jack) and Clara Hearn Nettleton.

Mr. Nettleton was first married to Helen Curry, with three sons (who died in infancy) and one daughter born to that union.  His wife preceded him in death. Later, on Nov. 19, 1983, he was married to Mary Alice Meeks Winter.

Mr. Nettleton was a member of Ellen Moore United Methodist Church and was a World War II Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice; a daughter, Darlene Gifford, of Fairfield; two step-daughters, Ruth Ann Obrien, of Tuscola; and Marilyn Purcell, of Mattoon; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a one brother, Dale Nettleton, of Missouri.
