George Walter Dies At Kankakee

George A. Walter, 87, of Kankakee, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1994, at St. Mary's Hospital in that city.   He was Wayne County native and a brother of Maxine Moore of Cisne.  Mr. Walter, a self-employed painting contractor, had been a resident in the Kankakee Royal nursing Home the past six to eight months.

Funeral rites were conducted Saturday morning from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kankakee, with Rev. Martin Haeger officiating. Visitation was held Friday evening at the Rehr-Kaiser Funeral Home in Kankakee. Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens.

He was born at Golden Gate Apr. 13, 1907, the son of Thomas and Maude Nestler Walter.   On June 21, 1931, in Dwight, he was married to Margaret Lippold.  His parents, one brother and four sisters preceded him in death.

He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to that church.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Gaylord Walter, of Glen Ellyn; and Cleaon Walter, of Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jesse Walter, of Utah; and four sisters, Maxine Moore, of Cisne; Juantia Powers of Oklahoma; Nora Bullock, of Clifton; and Mary Catherine Lane, of Tennessee.
