Matthew York, 68, Retired Airtex Worker, Dies

A retired Airtex employee, Matthew Coleen (Jay or Jaybird) York, 68, of McLeansboro, died at 8 a.m. Friday Aug. 23, 1985, at St. Marys Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Mr. York was employed for 29 years with Airtex, retiring from the shipping department.

He was the brother of Vores York and Mrs. Roy (Venna) Martin, of Fairfield.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church near Blairsville, with Bro. Charles Mossberger officiating. Burial was in Old Springer Cemetery near Springerton. Gholson Funeral Home at McLeansboro was in charge.

Mr. York was born in Hamilton county, Mar. 4, 1917, the son of Palmer andMamie Springer York.     He married Beulah Barnett, who died in August of 1963.

Survivors include one son, Gary, of McLeansboro; a stepson, Charles Riley, of McLeansboro; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Lueke, of McLeansboro; and Mrs. Bonnie Morris, of Tolono; one step daughter, Mrs. Jo Floyd, of McLeansboro; three brothers, Vores York, of Fairfield; Homer York, of Enfield; and Clyde York, of McLeansboro; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Venna) Martin, of Fairfield, and Mrs.  Helen Ingram, of McLeansboro; a friend, Helen Louise Vorderbrueggen, of McLeansboro; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
