George Farris, Longtime Resident Here, Dies

A longtime Fairfield resident, George Washington Farris, 86, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1985, at his home from infirmities of age.   Mr. Farris was in declining health for the past year and under a doctor's care.  He was a retired self-employed timber worker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home.Burial will be in the Buckeye Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Farris was born in Jasper township, Wayne County, Oct. 20, 1898, the son of Jeff and Arabelle Trotter Farris.  He married the former Alice McKitrick at Louisville, May 15, 1929. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. For a short time early in their marriage, the couple resided in Iowa and Minnesota before moving back to Wayne County.
 
Mr. Farris is survived by his wife, Alice Farris, of Fairfield, four sons, Ray Farris, Sr., of Fairfield; Carl Farris, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Marion Farris, of Shreveport, La.; Richard Farris, of Louisiana, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. Elmore (Lucinda ) Withrow, of Sims; Mrs. Raymond (Cleda) Rinkenburger, of Tremont; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a son.
