Alfred Baker, Native Of Sims, Dies At Age 67

A Sims native, Alfred James Baker, 67 of Mt. Vernon, the brother of Arthur Baker, of Sims, died at 10:21 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 1985, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Baker operated a trash hauling business for several years. He was earlier employed for 15 years with Southern Railroads and then Vernois Inc.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday (today) at Hughey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with Jerry Reece officiating. Burial was in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne county.

 Mr. Baker was born at Sims, Dec. 9, 1917, the son of Charley and MacyWilmuth Richison Baker.  He was married to the former Vera May Robertson in Wayne county May 30, 1936.

Mr. Baker was a member of Belle Rive Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Baker, of Mt. Vernon; two sons, James Baker, of Istanbul, Turkey; and Homer Baker, of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Mrs. John (Mildred) Jones, of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Charles (Susie) Johnson, of Morris; Mrs. Sidney (Helen) Tripp, of S. Fulton, Tenn.; Mrs. Danny (Rhonda) West, of Mattoon; one brother, Arthur Baker, of Sims; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a sister.
