Marion Cross, Fairfield Oil Pumper, Succumbs

Marion Cross, 74, of rural Fairfield, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 1985at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind.  Mr. Cross was hospitalized for one month receiving treatment for emphysema.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday (today) at N@le's Funeral Home, with Rev. David Vera officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery.

Born in Stonefort, Oct. 24, 1910, Mr. Cross was the son of John M. and Florence Ann Fowler Cross.  Mr. Cross moved to the Fairfield area when he was six years old. He attended FCHS.

 In 1937 he married the former Elsie Keen in Fairfield.  Mr. Cross was employed for 36 years with Robinson Production, Inc., as a pumper in the oil fields.  He attended the Union North Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In his younger days, Marion was quite a pitcher for the old Fairfield Hoppers baseball team.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Cross, of Fairfield; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Harriett) Nale, of Fairfield two sons, Rodney Cross, of Fairfield; and Phillip Cross, of Olney; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Thacker, of Fairfield; and five grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sisters and his parents.
