Walter Atteberry, 88
Critically Ill, Dies

Walter “Tubb” Atteberry, 88, a resident of Fairfield many ears, died at 3:15 am.
Thursday (today) in the McLeansboro Hospital.

Mr. Atteberry, a resident of 307 ‘H. College, had been in the hospital about a month. He had been critically ill. He has been a patient at the Enfield Care Center for the last four years, his family said.

Arrangements Incomplete

Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Fairfield at press hour.

Mr. Atteberry was born in White county May 29, 1893, the son of Sims and Mary (Ambers) Atteberry. He was raised in the Wayne-White county area.

He was married to Mary Logan in 1935.

He worked in construction years ago, but has been retired for many years. He had been confined to a wheelchair for about four years.

Mr. Atteberry was a veteran of World War I and he was a member of the Caseyville VFW Post.

The Survivors

Surviving are his widow, of Fairfield; one son,  David Atteberry, of West Port, Mass.; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ann Rousey, of Sykesville, Md.; Mrs. Mary Punky McKinney, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Mrs. Connie DeWeese, of Amelia, O.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two great-great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Evelyn, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmi Baptist
Children’s home.
