Dispatcher, Age 67, Dies After Stroke
A well-known Fairfield police dispatcher, Robert Harry Smith, 67, died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 1985, at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Mt Vernon where he was a patient for three weeks.   Mr. Smith suffered a stroke which resulted in a coma while being transferred by helicopter to a medical facility, the Press was told.

He was employed with the police department for 11 years. Previously he worked for 26 years in production with N. V. Duncan Oil Company. Years ago he operated the old D-X service station here.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Tabor officiating.  Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery at Albion.    Friends and family may call for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday (tonight) at the funeral home.

A native of Edwards county, Mr. Smith was born Oct. 25, 1917, the son of Harry G. and Anna Eimers Smith. He attended Albion schools.   Mr. Smith was married to the former Claribel Wilson at Henderson, Ky., in October of 1938. A former member of both the Edwards and Wayne County Saddle Clubs, he was instrumental in organizing the Wayne County Saddle Club several years ago.  Mr. Smith followed the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his wife, Claribel Smith, of Fairfield, one son, Harold Smith, of Salem; two daughters, Mrs. James (Wilma) McMeen and Mrs. Theron (Ellen) Wolfe, both of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
