Mr. Sandy Dies

William E. (Bill) Sandy, 87, of Mt. Vernon, died at 3:15 p.m. Monday Apr. 29, 1996, at Mt. Vernon Care Center.

He was a Wayne County native.      Mr. Sandy was employed by Starr Brothers for 37 years and later worked at Boatman's Bank as a parking lot attendant.

Funeral rites were conducted Thursday afternoon (today) from the Chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens, with J. Howard Kraps and Rev. Melvin Larson officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Hughey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sandy was born in Wayne County June 3, 1908, the son of Elmer and Ella May Davis Sandy.  On Nov. 21, 1925, in St. Louis, he was married to Aline Jenkins.  He attended Central Christian Church, was a member of the UCT, the AARP and Modern Woodmen.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, three sisters and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Vernon Care Center employees.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Sandy, of Collinsville; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Milburn Sandy, of Opdyke.
