Clair O. Byars, Retired Keenes Farmer, Dies

Clair O. Byars, 77, a retired Keenes farmer, died at 11:26 a.m. Friday in Amarillo, Tex., where he had been living with his son for the past year.  The body was returned to Wayne City where funeral arrangements were handled by the Richards@n Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at the Garrison Temple United Methodist Church north of Keenes with Rev. Floyd Brewer officiating.  Burial was in Garrison Temple Cemetery.

Mr. Byars was born in Wayne County May 28, 1905, the son of Barney andBertha (Greenwalt) Byars.   He married the former Reba Mills Aug. 8, 1928. She preceded him in deathMar. 15, 1974.  Mr. Byars was a member of the Garrison Temple United Methodist Church andbelonged to the Wayne City Masonic Lodge.

He was elected to serve on the Wayne County ASCS committee and retired in1974 after being employed with that organization for 15 to 20 years.

Survivors include one son Vernon Byars, of Amarillo, Tex.; one brother, Roger Byars, of Centralia; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
