Mary Baker was born in Columbiana County, Ohio March 2, 1827; died, Feb. 1st, 1908, being at the time of her death 80 years, 10 months and 29 days old. She came with her parents to Wayne County, Illinois, when a child and has lived a long and useful life near this church and burying grounds, where sleeps the loved ones that have gone on before. At the age of 13 years she accepted Christ, soon after joining the M. E. church, and lived a blameless and beautiful christian life until called to a better world.

She was married to Michael Book, June 15, 1843. To them were born 4 sons and 3 daughters, two of them, one son and one daughter, have with the husband preceeded her to that home beyond the river. There is left to mourn her loss two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Crews and Mrs. Jane Schofield, both of Wayne County. three sons, William, David and James Book. She also leaves grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister as well as a host of friends and neighbors.

Into the lives of most everyone there will sometimes arise a doubt to question "Is there or can there be a God of love who will save?" Such doubts are removed when we witness a life as was lived by Grandma Book, and we are sustained and made happy by the assurance that all is well after such a life.

Funeral services were conducted Monday by Rev. R. D. Etseat at Victory Church, after which the remains were interred in the Bovee Cemetery.

The deceased was universally regarded as a good woman, a kind and loving wife and mother and a dutiful christian.
