Note from Lois:
Sarah A. Baker was daughter of George and Caroline Elizabeth (Cross) Baker. Her first husband was Jeffrey R. Powell.

SARAH A. THURSTON

Wife of Isaac Thurston and former wife of J. R. Powell, was born February 16, 1850 and passed away after a lingering illness at her home in Wayne County, Ill., February 24, 1912 at the age of 62 years and 8 days.

She was united in marriage with J. R. Powell on May 3, 1868 and to this union were born nine children, seven girls and two boys; of this number all are living but one girl and one boy. Of thos living all were permitted to attend her bedside during her last hours.

The children living are as follows:  Edd Powell of Big Mound Township; Mrs. Emmer Shorb, wife of Lou Shorb; Carrie Harlan, wife of Benjamin Harlan; Mrs. Laura Young, wife of W. S. Young; Mrs. Millie Littell, widow of Claud Littell who passed away some years ago; Mrs. Lizzie Wolf, wife of Bert Wolf and Mrs. Fannie Oneal, wife of James Oneal, all of Wayne County.

After the death of Bro. Powell she was united in marriage to her present husband Isaac Thurston, who still survives.

She has been a member of the Richland Christian Church for near twenty-five years, being one of the charter members of the local church at Richland. She has been a true spiritual christian; her life has not only been professional but she has lived out her life and has borne fruit for the kingdom of God. She expressed at the closing of her earthly life great faith in God and bidding all friends adieu, she was gone. May the Lord's tender care attend the mourning friends.

Interment was at Victory Cemetery.
