Wayne City Native Dies

Clarence D. Matthews, 71, a Wayne City native and a resident of rural Mt. Vernon, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1982, at his home of apparent natural causes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Rev James L. Seaman officiating. Interment will be in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City.   Visitation will be conducted after 6 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Dec. 1, 1910, the son of Millard and Minnie (Boudinot) Matthews.   Mr. Matthews was married to the former Edith Newman June 15, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo, and she survives.

He worked as a painter in California and later as an operator of a retail egg store before retiring and moving to Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Matthews followed the Baptist faith and was a lifetime member of the Painter's Local 256, of Long Beach, Calif.

He is survived by his wife Edith, of Mt. Vernon and several cousins.
