The funeral of Abraham Land was held Wednesday, January 13, at the Boyleston Christian Church with Rev. Ed Borah conducting the services.     Mr. Land was one of the few surviving veterans of the Civil War in Wayne CO, having served over four years in the service of the Union Army.     In recognition of this service, the Anthony Wayne post of the American Legion gave their fallen comrade military escort in his final rites.

Abraham Land, son of Abraham and Sarah (Edwards) Land, was born in Gibson CO., IN, Mar 26, 1845.   Died at his home north of Boyleston, IL, Jan 11, 1932, at the age of 86 years, 9 mos, and 16 days.

He was the youngest son of a family of eight children.    He was married to Narcissa Crabtree, Oct 13, 1866, to which union ten children were born, five boys and five girls.    They were Lewis, James, Ben, William, Forrest, Lula, Jennie, Rose, Mandy, and Mary.    The mother and three of the children, James, Forrest and Mary preceded him in death.

The deceased enlisted as a private in CO. B, 60 IN infantry in the year of 1861 at the age of 15 years.   He served his country for over four years, fighting in several major battles such as Shiloh and the siege of Vicksburg.    He was in General Sherman's army when it made its famous march to the sea, was captured once, was wounded once and served some time in the confederate prison.

Mr. Land professed a hope in Christ in 1882 at which time he united with the Burnt Prairie Church near Carmi, IL.    He became active in church work and was ordained to the Christian ministry at the New Liberty Church in Gibson CO in 1893.    He was pastor of the Vinson Church near New Haven, IL, for twelve years.    He served other churches for shorter periods of time.

He was married the second time to Olie Brown, of Fairfield, on October 10, 1918.   The new home was made in the community where finally the end came.   Their home together was happy and their useful lives gave much to the community in which they lived.    Mr. Land was serving his church as Sunday School superintendent in his 86th year.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a loving wife and seven children:   Lewis Land of Keevil, AR; Bennie Land of Bescoe, AR; Mrs. J. E. Singletary of Gould, AR; William Land and Mrs. D. O. Clifford, of New Haven, IL; and Mrs. E. Daniels and Mrs. Louis Zuber of Fairfield.    Twenty-five grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and many other distant relatives survive.

An earlier obit states he suffered a stroke and internment was in Bovee.
