Death of Lloyd R. Ellis.

Lloyd R. Ellis, one of the best known citizens of Jasper township died at his home, seven miles northeast of Fairfield, at ten o'clock last Thursday night. Though he had been in poor health for a number of years and had been failing considerably during the past two years, his death was, in a great measure, unexpected. He at a fairly hearty breakfast on Tuesday morning before, after which he was taken very sick with hemorrhage of the stomarch and was in much pain and distress until death ended his sufferings.

He was born in Barnhill township, October 2, 1848. His father was S. C. B. Ellis and his mother's maiden name was Christina Darr.

At the age of sixteen years he enlisted in the service of his country and served one year as a private in Company B, of the 143d Indiana regiment. While in the army he contracted disabilities which finally resulted in his death.

He was married December 8, 1870, to Miss Emolinda Back, who survives him. To this union fourteen children --- seven sons and seven daughters. Two sons and two daughters have died, leaving five sons and five daughters now living.

He was a member of the M. E. church for about thirty years. He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and left many friends to mourn their loss. In politics he was a stalwart Republican.

Mr. Ellis had prospered well and at the time of his death owned about 700 acres of land, nearly of which was located in Jasper township.

The funeral occurred at the late home of the deceased at ten o'clock Saturday morning and was conducted by Rev. Whitsett, of Jeffersonville. The interment took place in the Hearn cemetery. The deceased was a member of the G. A. R. and I. O. O. F. socities and the funeral was attended by quite a few members of both orders.
