MRS. LELA BAKER
82 TELEPHONE OPERATOR
AT ELLERY FOR YEARS
DIES AT WAY-FAIR

Mrs. Lela Baker, 82, of Ellery, for years the telephone operator there, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Way-Fair Restorium suffering from a malignancy.

Mrs. Baker, the widow of Rev. George Baker, of Ellery, had been a patient in the nursing home since November of last year.

She was the sister of Arthur Ramsey and Mrs. Ethel (Bobbie) Mathews, both of Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at the Ingram Funeral Home in Albion at 10 a.m. Friday, with Rev. Tom Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery near Ellery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday (tonight).

Mrs. Baker was born in Ellery June 22, 1890, the daughter of Henry and Eliza Ramsey.  She married Rev. George Baker June 25, 1908. He preceded her in death inJune, 1955.

For 37 years, she was the telephone operator in Ellery and was well-known in that area. Mrs. Baker was a faithful member of the Ellery Christian Church.

Surviving are one son, Rev. Henry Baker, Ft. Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Ruth) Odom, Mt. Vernon; and Mrs. Mary Neaville, of Eureka; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; one brother Arthur Ramsey, of Fairfield; and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel (Bobbie) Mathews, Fairfield; Mrs. Frank Seifert, Ellery; and Mrs. Leonard Balding, of Noble.

We wish to thank the nurses at Way Fair for the wonderful care they gave mother.
